The A-State Alumni Association presented Langford with its Distinguished Alumni award, its highest honor, during an on-field ceremony during the Red Wolves’ game against Georgia State.

Langford, a 1984 graduate of A-State, was an All-Southland Conference quarterback from 1980-1983 and has since been inducted into the athletic department’s Hall of Honor and the football program’s Ring of Honor. While a senior at A-State, he was the recipient of the university’s first-ever Terry Gwin Award, which is presented annually to the top student athlete in any sport.

He and his wife, Terri, are longtime supporters of the university’s athletic program. In 2004, they made a major gift that established the Tim and Terri Langford Sports Medicine Center.

“The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes graduates whose accomplishments bring honor to Arkansas State University through professional achievement, service and leadership,” said Alumni Association President Natalie Rogers. She said Langford and two other honorees, Phillip Poston of Jonesboro and Billy Don Tiner of San Antonio, “have each made a lasting impact in their professions, communities and at A-State, and we are proud to celebrate their accomplishments.”

The recipients were chosen by the association’s board of directors from nominations submitted by fellow alumni and supporters.

“Langford excelled both on the field and in the classroom,” the association said, adding that his “service to Arkansas State extends beyond his student days. Appointed to the Arkansas State University Board of Trustees in 2014 and reappointed in 2019, he helped guide the university through a period of significant growth and advancement. Following his service on the board, he was named trustee emeritus. Throughout his medical career, he has led leadership roles with Baptist Health, the South Central Section of the American Urological Association, and numerous educational and health care organizations across Arkansas.”

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in zoology and pre-medicine at A-State, Langford earned a medical degree at UAMS in 1988 and also completed his urology residency at UAMS. He practiced for 28 years at Arkansas Urology, serving as president and medical director of the state’s largest urology practice, before returning to UAMS in 2021. In November 2025, he was invested in the Steven K. Wilson Endowed Chair in Prosthetic Urology.

“Arkansas State University gave me much more than an education,” he said. “It gave me the foundation, experiences, and relationships that prepared me for every step of my life including my present role as chair of urology at UAMS. I am deeply grateful to my alma mater and incredibly honored to be named a Distinguished Alumnus.”

Langford practices general urology with an emphasis on prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, male voiding dysfunction, and robotic surgery.

Poston, a 1996 A-State graduate with a degree in marketing, is a businessman who is widely recognized for his leadership in economic development, research, and workforce advancement. He serves on numerous boards and organizations and has played a significant role in securing support for academic initiatives.

Tiner, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a retired U.S. Navy captain, is a 1972 graduate who also earned an undergraduate degree in zoology. He is recognized for building “an extraordinary career marked by excellence in military service, medicine, education, and philanthropy,” and providing educational and athletic support of A-State.
