By Ben Boulden

To be selected as a fellow, the nominee must have made outstanding contributions to the discipline of communication sciences and disorders. His nominators cited his accomplishments in the areas of clinical education and academic teaching, distinguished record of research, and significant service to leadership in professional organizations other than ASHA.

Atcherson has primarily taught in the Doctor of Audiology program since 2008 and co-authored or contributed to 70 peer-reviewed articles as well as five books and several book chapters, and has given more than 300 presentations. He co-founded the Association of Audiologists with Hearing Loss, has served as president of the Association of Medical Professionals with Hearing Losses, as vice president of Audiology and Hearing Services in the Arkansas Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and as a governor-appointed member of the Board of Trustees of the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind, as well as many other state and professional associations.

ASHA is the national professional, scientific, and credentialing association for 247,000 members, certificate holders, and affiliates who are audiologists; speech-language pathologists; speech, language, and hearing scientists; audiology and speech-language pathology assistants; and students.
