By ChaseYavondaC

In its sixth year, UAMS Project SEARCH is a job-training program that helps young adults with disabilities develop independent living and working skills. A partnership with the Little Rock-based nonprofit ACCESS® and Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, UAMS Project SEARCH was first of its kind in central Arkansas.

Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, welcomed the interns and their families to UAMS.

“I cannot think of a better way to begin our academic year than to have 10 amazing interns working beside our employees as we advance our mission by serving the people of Arkansas.”

Patterson also recognized the departments that host the interns and members of the steering committee who work tirelessly in planning and organizing UAMS’ participation in Project SEARCH each year.

Since it began in 2013, UAMS Project SEARCH has graduated more than 60 young adults. Of these, more than 75 percent had obtained full-time employment at the time of graduation, and the majority found jobs within a few months of graduating from the program.

This year’s UAMS Project SEARCH interns are:

  • William Armstrong
  • LaCorey DeShazier
  • Kiera Jones
  • Anna Lum
  • Nauman Pathan
