Two CHP Presentations Featured during Alumni Weekend

By Robert Tolleson

Graduates of six CHP programs — Dietetics and Nutrition, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Nuclear Advanced Associate, Nuclear Medicine Imaging Sciences, Respiratory Care and Surgical Technology — are invited to attend the reunion.

Lori Williamson Dean, M.S., C.G.C., and Bradley Schaefer, M.D., will present “Precision Medicine: Fad or Future?” at 10:15 a.m., about this emerging approach for disease treatment and prevention that takes into account individual variability in genes, environment and lifestyle for each person. Dean and Schaefer’s presentation will provide an overview of how precision medicine is currently applied (mostly in pharmacogenomics), anticipated applications and the role of genetic counselors in all health care sectors as precision medicine increasingly changes how health care is delivered.

Then at 11 a.m., Erna L. Boone, DrPH, RRT, FAARC, Kathy Lease, Ed. D., and Julie Moretz, UAMS associate vice chancellor for patient- and family-centered care, will present “Future Health Care Professionals Learning WITH, FROM, and ABOUT Each Other to Improve the Patient and Family Experience: A Novel Interprofessional Education Course.”

This course addresses the College of Health Professions’ integration of patient- and family-centered care (PFCC) competencies into an interprofessional education (IPE) course using a simulation setting to prepare the next generation of health professionals and shape how care is best delivered.
