Wimmer Named Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement
| Angela Wimmer, M.Ed., who has more than 19 years of fundraising experience, has been named vice chancellor of institutional advancement for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) effective Feb. 11.
As vice chancellor, Wimmer will lead fundraising for UAMS and will have responsibility for managing all development programs, including the annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, major gifts and gift planning, endowment, capital campaigns and alumni and constituent relations. She will serve as primary liaison to the 56-member UAMS Foundation Fund Board, which supports and assists university leadership in delivering the resources necessary for UAMS to pursue its mission.
“Angela’s deep fundraising experience and drive make her a perfect fit for UAMS as we pursue new and better ways to improve health care in this state,” said UAMS Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D, MBA. “She’s going to hit the ground running and continue the excellent work that the Office of Institutional Advancement has been doing.”
Wimmer comes to UAMS from the Texas Tech University System in Lubbock, Texas, where she served as associate vice chancellor for Central Advancement, as part of a leadership team responsible for the advancement operation for two universities and two health science centers. Her previous fundraising experience includes working with international, individual, corporate and foundation donors. She honed her experience in annual giving and corporate relations in a number of national advancement positions including the Volunteer Center of Orange County and the Muscular Dystrophy Association in California, as well as the Memphis Symphony Orchestra in Tennessee.
Patterson thanked Brigitte Grant, senior associate vice chancellor for development, who has served as interim vice chancellor of institutional advancement for the last several months, as well as members of the search committee: Christopher T. Westfall, M.D., College of Medicine dean; Jeannette Shorey, M.D., associate provost for faculty affairs; Kent Westbrook, M.D., distinguished professor in the Department of Surgery in the College of Medicine; Maurice Rigsby, vice chancellor for institutional relations; Pearl McElfish, Ph.D., vice chancellor for the Northwest Regional Campus; Jo Smith, RNP, director of special services; Kelly Eichler, member of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees; Beau Blair, chair of the UAMS Foundation Fund Board; and Patti Bailey, member of the UAMS Foundation Fund Board.
Wimmer previously served as senior associate director of development at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom; as director of corporate relations at Auburn University and as director of corporate and foundation relations at Auburn’s Raymond J. Harbert College of Business. She received her master’s in adult education and organizational development and her bachelor’s in political science from Auburn. She also participated in the Advanced Leadership Program at Cambridge and completed the Centro de Lenguas Modernas, Spanish Immersion Program at the Universidad de Granada in Granada, Spain.
