Al-Qaisi has been named an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine. She will serve as a hospitalist, specializing in the care of patients in the multiple myeloma inpatient unit.

Al-Qaisi received her medical degree in 2002 from Jordan University of Science and Technology in Amman, Jordan, graduating second in her class. She completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Ind., and a family practice internship at Indiana University School of Medicine.

UAMS treats more than 2,250 patients with multiple myeloma annually at the Myeloma Institute – more myeloma patients than are treated at any other facility in the country.

The Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy was the first institute in the world devoted to research and clinical care related to multiple myeloma and related disorders. Founded in 1989 by internationally known multiple myeloma expert Bart Barlogie, M.D., Ph.D., the UAMS program has seen more than 8,000 patients from every state in the United States and more than 40 foreign countries.

UAMS is the state’s only comprehensive academic health center, with five colleges, a graduate school, a new 540,000-square-foot hospital, six centers of excellence and a statewide network of regional centers. UAMS has 2,652 students and 733 medical residents. Its centers of excellence include the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy, the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute, the Psychiatric Research Institute and the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging. It is the state’s largest public employer with more than 10,000 employees, including nearly 1,150 physicians who provide medical care to patients at UAMS, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, the VA Medical Center and UAMS’ Area Health Education Centers throughout the state.
