Public Invited Nov. 9 to Learn About Stroke
| LITTLE ROCK – The public is invited to attend a one-hour presentation Nov. 9 about stroke by University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) stroke neurologist Salah Keyrouz, M.D.
“Stroke 101: What You Need to Know,” will be held at UAMS and shown live via interactive video at 11 locations across Arkansas. Participants will learn what a stroke is, risk factors, warning signs and how to access the emergency response system.
Those attending also will have an opportunity to ask questions and will receive additional information to take home.
Keyrouz is the medical director of Arkansas SAVES (Stroke Assistance through Virtual Emergency Support), a UAMS-led program that uses a high-speed video communications system to help provide immediate, life-saving treatments to stroke patients 24 hours a day. The real-time video communication enables a stroke neurologist to evaluate whether emergency room physicians around the state should use a powerful blood thinner within the critical 4.5-hour period following the first signs of stroke.
