UAMS College of Pharmacy Hosts Essay Contest for High School Students
| LITTLE ROCK – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Pharmacy is seeking submissions from high school students statewide to compete in its Future Pharmacists Essay Contest.
Students must be enrolled in grades 9-12 and will compete for a $250 prize in each of the eight regional divisions. Private- and home-schooled students at equivalent grade and age levels are also encouraged to enter. Submissions are being accepted now and must be postmarked by April 30 to be eligible.
Students are asked to research several areas of the pharmacy profession and choose the one that most interests them. The areas include academia, community, government, clinical, military, independent ownership, nuclear, pharmaceutical industry, long-term care or any pharmacy specialty. Essays must be between 500-1,000 words and include cover pages and a bibliography, which are not included in the word count.
Essays will be judged on content, organization, spelling, grammar and ability to stay on topic. The panel of judges will be selected from UAMS College of Pharmacy alumni statewide. Winners will be notified the first week of June. Eight winners, one from each of the Arkansas Pharmacists Association districts, will be honored individually at each student’s home district’s annual meeting in September.
