How To Stick to the Plan During the Holidays
| We all know that the holidays can be a tough time to stick to your workout and healthy eating plans. There are so many temptations that it is easy to become overwhelmed. Lindsey Miller, fitness coordinator at the UAMS Fitness Center, has some tips to help you stick to the plan during the holiday season.
- Schedule gym time on your calendar as if it were an important appointment (because it is!)
- Leave a packed gym bag in your vehicle. You’ll have what you need no matter where you are!
- Find a form of exercise that you enjoy or that motivates you.
- Don’t miss a workout more than two days in a row, unless the plan calls for it, you are sick, or it is necessary.
- Try a healthier version of your favorite holiday foods.
- Pick protein first, veggies second and all other dishes last! This will keep you from going overboard and leave you fuller longer!
- Find an accountability partner, either to workout with or just to check in with every few days.
- Just stay moving! You can move your body anywhere, even if you just take a walk after your meals.
- Don’t put your goals off until the new year. This is the biggest mistake people make around the holidays, but it doesn’t have to be your mistake.
- Don’t beat yourself up if you miss a workout or eat a bit too much pie! Just get back on track immediately and move on.
