Fitness Center Rolls Out Upgraded Equipment
| The UAMS Fitness Center always wants to offer members a great workout for a great price, said manager Adam Carter. Regularly updating the equipment plays an important part in meeting that goal, he added.
Last month, the Fitness Center added eight treadmills with touchscreens, an alpine runner, a leg press and a squat rack.
The True Fitness Touchscreen 900 Series treadmills replace older treadmills, said Carter. The new machines feature touch screens with a variety of videos of scenic outdoor locations for exercisers to walk or run through. The treadmills are Bluetooth compatible so users can connect their phones or fitness devices to the machine and download their workout data to their personal devices. The treadmills also have fans built into the display, which will help keep exercisers cool during their workouts, said Carter.
The new treadmills also are capable of speeds up to 17 mph and offer an 18% maximum incline, while the old machines topped out at 12 mph with a 15% incline.
The True Fitness Alpine Runner replaces the stepmill, Carter said.
“This machine is really fun and looks and functions more like a treadmill than a stairclimber,” he said. “The Alpine Runner is capable of speeds up to 12 mph and incline variations from negative 3% to a 30% incline. Most treadmills don’t have an option to go down on a decline and their inclines max out at 15%, so this machine really offers a different kind of workout.”
In the weight room, the Fitness Center added a new leg press that has a maximum weight capacity of 1,000 pounds and a squat rack that features an Olympic bar lifting station with bar free to move unrestricted by posts or guide rods.
Carter said the reaction to the new equipment has been very positive.
“The treadmills and the leg press are the most popular as both are upgrades that our members have been asking for,” he said. “I’m glad we’re able to offer this improvement to our members.”
“Our hope is that this will give people a much-needed opportunity for better self-care during this difficult time. A person is only a good workout away from a much better day.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fitness Center has also stepped up its process for keeping the facility sanitized. All the equipment is disinfected multiple times per day using a disinfectant fogging sprayer. In addition, sanitizing wipes are provided so members may disinfectant equipment before and after use. There also are several hand sanitizer stations throughout the facility.
