UAMS to Host 24-Hour Day of Giving on April 14
| LITTLE ROCK — On April 14, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will host its fourth annual Day of Giving, a 24-hour fundraising event to help advance the institution’s mission and contribute to better health for all Arkansans.
Begun in 2017, the event is UAMS’ largest single-day philanthropic effort, helping supercharge patient care, education and research programs across the institution. As the state’s only health sciences university, UAMS continues to lead in these areas while playing an essential role in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic in Arkansas.
“I look forward to this event each year because it is a reflection of UAMS’ commitment to provide access and improve care for more than 3 million Arkansans,” said UAMS Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, and CEO of UAMS Health. “Arkansas has a philanthropic spirit like nowhere else. I continue to be humbled by the generosity of each of our donors, who contribute to UAMS from across the state and around the globe.”
The UAMS Day of Giving will run for 24 hours, beginning at 6 a.m., April 14, and ending at 6 a.m. on April 15. Patterson will kick off the day’s events by making the first donation. This year, UAMS is soliciting funds for the COVID-19 Action Fund, the Stocked & Reddie food pantry and areas of greatest need for UAMS colleges and institutes. Any gift, no matter the amount, will have a positive impact on patients, staff, faculty and students.

Donations of dollars and food for the Stocked & Reddie food pantry may be dropped off via a special drive-thru at the Freeway Medical Tower at 5800 W. 10th Street in Little Rock. Members of the community are also encouraged to write and drop off thank-you notes for UAMS’ health care heroes on the front lines of the pandemic.

Throughout the day, supporters of the initiative can share stories on social media about how UAMS has made a difference for them using the hashtag #UAMSDayofGiving. The institution will be active on social media, cheering on donations, sharing testimonials and encouraging others to support the causes that matter most to them.
UAMS providers oversee more than 1 million patient appointments each year at its main campus, regional campuses, the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and Arkansas Children’s. UAMS graduates nearly 1,000 doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals each year, the majority of whom stay in Arkansas to practice.
State funding is only a small percentage of UAMS’ $1.5 billion annual budget. Patient care revenue makes up the lion’s share, or 75 percent. UAMS relies on philanthropic support from generous donors in Arkansas and beyond to provide much-needed funds for clinical excellence, groundbreaking research and innovative education for the next generation of health professionals.
