COP’s Johnson elected to Executive Committee of American Pharmacists Association Academy
| Christopher Johnson, Pharm.D., M.Ed., was recently elected as a member-at-large on the executive committee for the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management – one of three academies within the American Pharmacists Association (APhA).
Johnson, an assistant professor for the UAMS College of Pharmacy, will work with APhA staff, professional colleagues, and state and federal legislators to guide and improve how pharmacists can provide care for patients. His two-year term begins in March 2022.
“I’m excited and honored to serve patients and fellow pharmacists in this position because it gives me a chance to use my passions, talents and experiences to give pharmacists more responsibilities in improving the care that patients can receive, both nationally and in the state,” he said.
Johnson believes underserved patients – a population he has a passion for – can benefit the most from having pharmacists involved at the governmental level.
“We have many pharmacists in Arkansas who are trained to administer more care than they’re allowed to provide,” said Johnson. “We treat so many of our diseases with medications, and pharmacists can help treat patients by helping them improve the effectiveness of their medication.”
With several years of involvement in APhA, Johnson previously served on the association’s policy standing committee. He is also an advisor for the UAMS chapter of the Academy of Student Pharmacists – the student branch of APhA.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Johnson graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his doctor of pharmacy and master’s degree in education from Concordia University-Wisconsin, where he also completed a 24-month residency.
