UAMS Midsouth Summit Black Expo Set for Feb. 26

By Linda Haymes

This year’s virtual expo, themed “Health – Your Time is Now” is set for Feb. 26, and will stream live beginning at 9 a.m. on UAMS’ Midsouth Black Expo Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/MidSouthBlackExpo/. The event ends at 1 p.m.

In-person, prescheduled mammograms also will be offered at The Venue at Westwind, 7318 Windsong Drive in North Little Rock, by the UAMS MammoVan mobile mammography unit. Appointments are required, and participants will be screened for COVID-19. To make an appointment for a mammogram or to determine if you qualify for services, call (800) 259-8794.

There will also be a medical drive-thru, offering blood pressure checks and cholesterol screenings. No appointment is required for those screenings.

The expo will feature an “Ask the Doctor” segment, cancer health messages, a showcase of minority-owned businesses, and black cultural and historical education.

One of the goals of the expo is to highlight the work of UAMS’ Office of Health Initiatives and Disparities Research, which seeks to improve access to colorectal screenings in underserved communities. There is also an ongoing commitment to address the concern of cancer-related problems through education, training and research.
