UAMS to Host Sixth Annual Day of Giving Oct. 4
| LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) will host its sixth annual Day of Giving on Oct. 4, a 24-hour fundraising event to help advance the institution’s mission and contribute to better health for all Arkansans.
Started in 2017, the event is UAMS’ largest single-day philanthropic effort, helping energize patient care, education and research programs across the institution, while celebrating the resilience of the entire UAMS community. Last year, UAMS successfully reached its goal of receiving a donation from all 75 Arkansas counties to emphasize the statewide reach of the institution. This year, UAMS’ goal is to receive at least 500 donations.
“The Day of Giving has quickly become one of UAMS’ favorite events — a day that energizes the philanthropic spirit of the institution,” said Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, UAMS chancellor and CEO of UAMS Health. “Philanthropy funds all of UAMS’ mission areas, supporting a variety of programs throughout the state, so the day is not just celebrating the donations made during the 24-hour event, but the giving that happens throughout the year.”
The UAMS Day of Giving will run for 24 hours, beginning at 6 a.m., Oct. 4, and ending at 6 a.m., Oct. 5. Any gift, no matter the amount, will have a positive impact on patients, staff, faculty and students. At 1 p.m., students, staff and guests are encouraged to meet at Bruce Fountain, located outside of the UAMS Medical Center on the main UAMS Campus, for games and activities.
All funds raised will support the various programs, funds, colleges or institutes chosen by the donor. Gifts are tax deductible and can be made online at dayofgiving.UAMS.edu or on the phone during normal business hours at 501-686-8200.
Throughout the day, supporters of the initiative can share stories on social media about how UAMS has made a difference for them using the hashtag #UAMSDayofGiving. The institution will be active on social media, cheering on donations, sharing testimonials and encouraging others to support the causes that matter most to them.
UAMS providers oversee more than 1 million patient appointments each year at its main campus, regional campuses, the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and Arkansas Children’s. UAMS graduates more than 1,000 doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals each year, the majority of whom stay in Arkansas to practice.
State funding is only a small percentage of UAMS’ $1.5 billion annual budget. Patient care revenue makes up the lion’s share, or 75%. UAMS relies on philanthropic support from generous donors in Arkansas and beyond to provide much-needed funds for clinical excellence, groundbreaking research and innovative education for the next generation of health professionals.
