Chaow Charoenkijkajorn, M.D., Joins UAMS Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute
| LITTLE ROCK — Chaow Charoenkijkajorn, M.D., has joined the Harvey & Bernice Jones Eye Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS).
Charoenkijkajorn’s medical interests include neuro-ophthalmology and ocular pathology. He sees patients with various neuro-ophthalmic conditions such as giant cell arteritis, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, blepharospasm, optic neuritis and cranial nerve palsies.
“Dr. Chaow is one of the few ocular pathologists/neuro-ophthalmologists in the country,” said Director Paul Phillips, M.D. “He is part of the team at Jones Eye Institute that is among the best in the country. We are lucky to have him.”
Charoenkijkajorn, an assistant professor in the Jones Eye Institute, UAMS College of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology, joins UAMS following a clinical fellowship in ophthalmic pathology in 2023 at Stanford University School of Medicine in Stanford, California, and another in neuro-ophthalmology at Houston Methodist Hospital’s Blanton Eye Institute in 2021.
A native of Thailand, Charoenkijkajorn earned his medical degree in 2014 from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. He completed internships at two hospitals in Yala, Thailand, before completing his ophthalmology residency in 2019 at Ramathibodi Hospital in Bangkok. He was an ophthalmologist at Hatyai Hospital in Songkhla, Thailand, from 2019-2021 before completing his clinical fellowships.
He has authored more than 30 journal articles, four book chapters and three books, and he is a top contributor to EyeWiki, an online reference maintained by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Since 2022 he has been a guest lecturer and visiting instructor in Thailand and a regular presenter at ophthalmology meetings worldwide.
