UAMS Names Dan Voth, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor of Research & Innovation
| LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) named Dan Voth, Ph.D., as vice chancellor for Research & Innovation.
As vice chancellor, Voth will be responsible for defining the strategy and vision for research and seeking to enhance research activities across all UAMS colleges. He will work closely with UAMS’ senior leadership, the deans of all five colleges and the Graduate School, and institute directors to advance and support research at UAMS.
“We are delighted that Dr. Voth has agreed to take on this role,” said UAMS Chancellor Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA. “He has held numerous leadership roles at UAMS, and I know he will do great things at the helm of our research efforts.”
A professor in the College of Medicine, Voth joined UAMS in 2009. Since 2020, he has served as chair of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. In February, UAMS named him senior associate vice chancellor for research.
He has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) since his arrival at UAMS. In 2022, he was the principal investigator for a $7.9 million NIH grant that is funding renovation of the first floor of UAMS’ Biomedical Research Center Building One to create about 9,900 square feet of additional research space.
Voth earned his doctorate from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Northwestern Oklahoma State University, where he graduated cum laude. He also performed postdoctoral research at the National Institutes of Health Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Montana.
Voth succeeds Shuk-mei Ho, Ph.D., who stepped down April 1 after five years in the role to focus on her research activities.
