UAMS to Host Seventh Annual Day of Giving Oct. 10

By Andrew Vogler

Started in 2017, the event is UAMS’ largest single-day philanthropic effort, helping fuel patient care, education and research programs across the institution, while celebrating the resilience of the entire UAMS community. This year, UAMS’ goal is to receive at least $300,000 in donations.

“We are always excited to celebrate Day of Giving at UAMS, a time to raise much needed funds for the institution, but also a reminder of how important philanthropy is for our community,” said Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, UAMS chancellor and CEO of UAMS Health. “It is a day when everyone at UAMS, and across the state in the communities we serve, can get energized for the important work that is being done throughout the state, refocusing on the big picture of creating a better state of health for all Arkansans.”

The UAMS Day of Giving will run for 24 hours, beginning at 6 a.m., Oct. 10, and ending at 6 a.m., Oct. 11. Any gift, no matter the amount, will have a positive impact on patients, staff, faculty and students.

This year’s Day of Giving celebration will highlight five featured units and programs at UAMS:

  • 12th Street Health & Wellness Center
  • The Culinary Medicine program
  • Center for Health Literacy
  • Stocked & Reddie Food Pantry
  • Student scholarships

There will also be activities happening throughout the day, including an address by Patterson in the Hospital Lobby Gallery at 10 a.m., a cooking class for Parkinson’s patients by the Culinary Medicine program at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging at 10:45 a.m. and a program spotlight at Stocked & Reddie Food Pantry from noon to 6 p.m. The day will also feature a scavenger hunt, giveaways and contests.

All funds raised will support the various programs, funds, colleges or institutes chosen by the donor. Gifts are tax deductible and can be made online at dayofgiving.UAMS.edu or by calling 501-686-8200 during normal business hours.

Throughout the day, supporters of the initiative can share stories on social media about how UAMS has made a difference for them using the hashtag #UAMSDayofGiving. The institution will be active on social media, cheering on donations, sharing testimonials and encouraging others to support the causes that matter most to them.

UAMS providers oversee more than 1 million patient appointments each year at its main campus, nine regional campuses, the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System and Arkansas Children’s. UAMS graduates more than 1,000 doctors, nurses, pharmacists and allied health professionals each year, the majority of whom stay in Arkansas to practice.

State funding is only a small percentage of UAMS’ $1.5 billion annual budget. Patient care revenue makes up the lion’s share, or 75%. UAMS relies on philanthropic support from generous donors in Arkansas and beyond to provide much-needed funds for clinical excellence, groundbreaking research and innovative education for the next generation of health professionals.
