Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Awards UAMS $30,000 to Support Oral Health Care
| The Department of Dental Hygiene in the College of Health Professions and the UAMS Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation Oral Health Clinic recently received $30,000 from the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation to continue delivering comprehensive preventive and interventional dental care, along with oral health education, to underserved populations.
Established in 2013 and led by UAMS students, the 12th Street Health & Wellness Center promotes interprofessional collaboration while serving underserved populations.
This oral health project will receive patient referrals from the center, where most patients are uninsured or underinsured. The UAMS Dental Hygiene and Oral Health clinics strive to expand access to dental care and education. Requested funds will support continued delivery of free acute and comprehensive dental care, along with oral health education, helping to reduce disparities in oral health access across Arkansas.
The Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation seeks to expand access to oral health care in underserved areas. Grant recipients were selected based on the innovativeness of the proposed project and its potential impact on the oral health of Arkansans.
“We are proud to recognize the work being done by the UAMS Dental Hygiene and Oral Health clinics by selecting them as one of our grant recipients,” said Sharon Lanier, Ph.D., executive director of the Delta Dental of Arkansas Foundation. “By increasing access to dental care, we can help improve the oral and overall health and well-being of children and adults by preventing serious health issues down the road.”
