UAMS Names Cheryl Lane as Vice Chancellor for Information Technology
| LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has named Cheryl Lane as vice chancellor for Information Technology.
In March, Lane was named interim vice chancellor for IT. She previously served as UAMS chief information officer (CIO) and associate vice chancellor.
“I am so grateful that Cheryl has accepted this role,” said UAMS Chancellor C. Lowry Barnes, M.D. “With her 35 years at UAMS, I can’t think of anyone more qualified to lead our hardworking IT employees. I know the department will achieve great things under her leadership.”
In her role as CIO, Lane was responsible for leading and developing IT teams and managing the department’s operations and budget. She collaborated with the UA System Office to ensure strategic coordination and was deeply involved in the implementation of Workday administrative management software. She partnered with academic and research leaders to advance key initiatives. She worked closely with clinical leadership, playing an essential role in the daily operations of the Epic electronic medical record system to promote clinical and operational excellence.
An Arkansas native, Lane graduated from the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and minors in computer science and chemistry. She joined UAMS as a computer training manager and has held a variety of roles in her 35 years at UAMS, including as medical informatics manager in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, director of clinical systems in the Clinical Information Systems Department, director of research systems in IT, and assistant vice chancellor of Clinical, Academic, Research & Enterprise Systems.
