Endocrinologist Freddy Toloza Bonilla, M.D., Joins UAMS

| LITTLE ROCK — Endocrinologist Freddy Toloza Bonilla, M.D., MHSc, has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as an assistant professor for the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism within the College of Medicine Department of Internal Medicine.

Toloza Bonilla is an endocrinologist specializing in thyroid and parathyroid disorders, with expertise in thyroid cancer. He provides comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and parathyroid disease, combining clinical expertise with research experience to deliver personalized care tailored to each patient’s needs.

After receiving his medical degree from the Universidad de los Andes School of Medicine in Bogotá, Colombia, Toloza Bonilla completed his internal medicine residency at Metrowest Medical Center, a teaching affiliate of Tufts University School of Medicine, in Massachusetts. He then completed a combined clinical and research fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He also earned a Master of Health Sciences (MHSc) in Clinical Research from the Duke University School of Medicine.

Toloza Bonilla has more than a decade of research experience, including serving as a postdoctoral research fellow at UAMS with Spyridoula Maraka, M.D. His research training also includes work with the Diabetes, Lipids, and Metabolism Research Group at the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia and the Knowledge and Evaluation Research Unit at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

“I am excited to join the team at UAMS,” said Toloza Bonilla. “By bringing together my experience in clinical care and research, I hope to provide patients with comprehensive care that leads to meaningful improvements in quality of life.”

Toloza Bonilla is board certified in internal medicine and endocrinology by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American Thyroid Association and the Endocrine Society.
