Nephrologist Vikas Vujjini, M.D., Joins UAMS
| LITTLE ROCK — Nephrologist Vikas Vujjini, M.D., has joined the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine’s Division of Nephrology in the Department of Internal Medicine.
Vujjini, who is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology, received his medical degree from MNR Medical College in Sangareddy, India, and Dr. N.T.R University of Health Sciences in Vijayawada, India. He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in transplant nephrology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, followed by an internal medicine residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, where he was chief resident. He completed an additional nephrology fellowship at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Most recently, Vujjini was a staff physician with Nephrology Associates, PA, in Little Rock. He also held appointments as chief of staff for the Division of Internal Medicine/Nephrology at Baptist Health Medical Center in Conway, and medical director for DaVita Central Dialysis in Little Rock and DaVita Diamond State Dialysis in Sherwood, as well as affiliations with multiple central Arkansas hospitals.
“Dr. Vujjini is an outstanding nephrologist who brings new perspectives to our group and has excellent interaction with his patients,” said John Arthur, M.D., Ph.D., professor and director of the Division of Nephrology. “We are very fortunate to have him join our group.”
At UAMS, Vujjini will provide care for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, electrolyte disorders, hemodialysis, home hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis. He will see patients at dialysis units in Conway, Little Rock, North Little Rock, and Sherwood. He will also teach renal fellows and residents.
“There is a critical shortage of nephrologists nationwide, and many patients in Arkansas are not getting care in a timely manner,” Vujjini said. “My goal is to see as many patients as I can and provide comprehensive care.”
