Shahrukh Arif, M.D., Charmee Vyas, M.D., Join UAMS Pulmonary Team
| The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has welcomed Shahrukh Arif, M.D., and Charmee Vyas, M.D., back to the UAMS Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care, where both completed UAMS’ Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program.
Arif, a pulmonologist, will practice pulmonary and critical care medicine, both areas in which he specializes. Arif is also an assistant professor of medicine in the UAMS Department of Internal Medicine in the College of Medicine.
Prior to coming to UAMS, Arif was an assistant professor of medicine and intensivist at Saint Louis University and an intensivist at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis.
Arif is board certified in critical care medicine, pulmonary medicine, and Internal Medicine.
He earned his medical degree from Jinnah Medical and Dental College in Karachi, Pakistan. He received internal medicine training at Beth Israel Lahey Health Hospital and Medical Center located in Burlington, Massachusetts. Additionally, Arif completed the UAMS fellowship program in June 2024.
Arif has either led, or participated in, 14 published research projects.

Vyas will practice adult critical care medicine in the intensive care unit at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. She will also serve as an assistant professor in the UAMS College of Medicine.
Prior to completing UAMS’ critical care fellowship program in June, Vyas did a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. She also completed her internal medicine residency at Rutgers Health Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. She earned her medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College, located in Mumbai, India.
A member of the American College of Chest Physicians and Society of Critical Care Medicine, Vyas specializes in adult critical care medicine and caring for patients with serious and life-threatening illnesses in the intensive care unit. Her practice focuses primarily on providing comprehensive, compassionate care to critically ill patients and supporting their families.
Vyas also has worked on numerous research studies ranging from heart health to the effects of COVID-19. She focuses on resident education and quality improvement projects.
