The Zika virus causes mild fever, skin rash, red eyes, muscle and joint pain, or a headache that can last for up to seven days. Pregnant women can pass the virus to their unborn fetuses which can result in birth defects such as abnormally small head, eye problems and hearing deficits. The virus is mostly transmitted through mosquito bites; however, sexual transmission is possible.
