The Board of Trustees of the University of Arkansas today approved the selection of C. Lowry Barnes, M.D., professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as the next chancellor of the state’s only academic health sciences center.

LITTLE ROCK — Delivering family-centered diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) programs through digital health can significantly improve health outcomes for people with Type 2 diabetes, particularly those living in rural and underserved communities, according to researchers from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Institute for Community Health Innovation.

LITTLE ROCK — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently awarded more than $3.5 million to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) to lead a five-year statewide effort to improve the rate of colorectal cancer screening in the state.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Nursing recently received notice that its Nurse Anesthesia Program was awarded continued accreditation for a 10-year term through the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA).

UAMS Receives $3.18 Million Federal Grant to Create Program to Improve Communications Skills in Little Rock Students

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) Institute for Digital Health & Innovation has received a five-year, $3,183,174 grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to create a program in Little Rock schools to help students learn better communication skills, including conflict resolution, relationship building and critical decision-making.

Every year brings change, and in 2025, a significant change in the leadership of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) came in the middle of the year when Cam Patterson, M.D., MBA, stepped down as chancellor after seven years in the role.
