Nurse Honored for Prescription Drug Abuse Efforts

Every day in the United States, 2,500 youth abuse a prescription pain reliever for the first time. This fact is all too familiar to Gary Speed, R.N., a cardiac nurse at UAMS, after his 17-year-old son, Albert, died from a prescription drug overdose in 2006.

Bacon Throwdown Raises Money for Patient Fund

The first Rock Town Bacon Throwdown at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock featured 10 local professional chefs all serving samples of dishes that included bacon as an ingredient. Proceeds from the event, hosted by the UAMS Medical Center Auxiliary’s Aux Crew of young professionals, will go to the UAMS Patient Support Fund.
