Medical Complexity Leads to Unmet Needs, Study Finds

LITTLE ROCK — Special needs children with medical complexity, who see multiple specialists for more than one chronic condition, are more likely to have a health care need go unmet, according to a paper by Dennis Kuo, M.D., an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and the Arkansas Children’s Hospital Research Institute, published this month in the prestigious, peer-reviewed journal Health Affairs.

Townsend, M.D., vice chancellor for Clinical Programs and chief executive officer of UAMS Medical Center, was one of eight Arkansans of the Year recently named by Arkansas Life magazine, a publication of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, for “moving this great state forward – and who inspire us all to be better.”

Dec. 4, 2014 | Carl Collier, who received his bachelor’s degree in the UAMS College of Pharmacy in 1964 and later his PharmD., recently was honored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce with the Wes Golden Gordon Deeds Award. The award recognizes individuals who have contributed significantly to the quality of life in Fayetteville. The award was presented by Nancy Allen, daughter of the late Wes Gordon.
