Blake Williams Wins UAMS Marvin Award

May 29, 2009 | Blake Williams, of Little Rock, has won the Dr. Horace N. Marvin Award for achieving the highest numerical score in his freshman medical microscopic anatomy course at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock.

Julep Cup Jaunt Races to another Successful Year

May 14, 2009 | A crowd of about 250 braved the rainy weather to enjoy the Kentucky Derby and support UAMS at the sixth annual Julep Cup Jaunt derby watch party May 2. The event raised a total of more than $30,000 in the past two years to benefit the UAMS neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The NICU cares for some of the state’s tiniest babies.

May 8, 2009 | For a profession listed as one of the fastest growing in the nation, Suzanne Hansen, chairman of the UAMS ophthalmic medical technology program says it sometimes struggles to recruit students. “Many people still are not aware of the profession,” said Hansen, who leads the program in the UAMS College of Health Related Professions. It’s one of only five in the United States accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs.
