UAMS Procedures for the Media

The UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing oversees all communications and media relations regarding all areas of campus — clinical, education, outreach and research. All requests for publicity or interviews should be channeled through the Office of Communications & Marketing at 501-686-8998 or after hours by pager at 501-395-5989.

Newspaper and television photographers, reporters or other members of the working media are not permitted in the Emergency Room, on patient floors in the hospital, in outpatient areas or in any clinical areas on the UAMS campus unless their visits are first cleared with the Office of Communications & Marketing. All members of the media must be accompanied by a representative of the Office of Communications & Marketing while on UAMS property.

To protect a patient’s privacy rights and to ensure the accuracy of information provided to the media, only designated individuals in the Office of Communications & Marketing are authorized to release to the media any information concerning patients and their conditions.

Patient Interviews

News media should not contact patients directly for interviews but should work through the Office of Communications & Marketing. In accordance with privacy laws, patients must sign a UAMS release form prior to any interviews, photos or video on campus.

Physician/Faculty & Employee Interviews

News media should not contact physicians, nurses, other faculty or employees directly for interviews but should work through the Office of Communications & Marketing. Under UAMS campus policies, faculty and staff contacted directly by media are asked to refer these inquiries to the Office of Communications & Marketing before responding. It saves time and effort if media contact our office on the front end.

Media Parking

Parking on the UAMS campus is limited but can be arranged for media on the UAMS Parking 1 and Parking 2 decks. Media should contact the UAMS Office of Communications & Marketing prior to visiting the campus so parking close to the location you are visiting can be arranged.
