Tim Hill Named UAMS Vice Chancellor for Regional Programs
| LITTLE ROCK – Tim Hill has been named University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) vice chancellor for Regional Programs effective Aug. 1.
Hill, of Maumelle, succeeds Mark Mengel, M.D., who retired in May. Hill has served in the position in an interim appointment since then.
Regional Programs, originally called the Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), was started in 1973 through the efforts of then-Gov. Dale Bumpers, the Arkansas Legislature and UAMS to train medical residents and provide clinical care and health education services around the state.
Its eight regional centers are located in Batesville, Fayetteville, Fort Smith, Helena, Jonesboro, Magnolia, Pine Bluff and Texarkana.
“Tim Hill has done an exceptional job in leading Regional Programs at UAMS during the transition,” Rahn said. “He has clearly demonstrated that he has the skills, knowledge and inclusive and transparent management style needed to provide excellent leadership of Regional Programs in the future.”
Previously, Hill was director of the UAMS Center for Healthcare Enhancement and Development since October 2013 and for more than two years before that, he was director of the UAMS Center for Rural Health. From 1998 to 2009, Hill served as president and CEO of the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.
In 1982, he earned his bachelor’s degree in business, finance and accounting from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Hill has over 30 years of health care finance and operational management experience in nonprofit and proprietary settings. The Arkansas Hospital Association named him Administrator of the Year in 1996 while running Southwest Hospital in Little Rock, and named him the A. Allen Weintraub recipient in 2009, the highest honor bestowed upon a health care executive.
