UAMS Names Renee Joiner Director of Arkansas SAVES Stroke Telemedicine Program
| LITTLE ROCK — Renee Joiner has been named by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) as director of the Arkansas Stroke Awareness and Virtual Emergency Support (AR SAVES) program.
Joiner will oversee the operations of AR SAVES, which uses a high-speed video communications system to help provide immediate, life-saving treatments to stroke patients 24 hours a day. The AR SAVES program is a partnership of the UAMS Center for Distance Health, the state Department of Human Services and 48 Arkansas hospitals.
She replaces Michael Manley, who left in December to become director of clinical service integration and development for UAMS Medical Center.
In 1997, Joiner graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in nursing where she also earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and sociology in 1983.
For the last six years, Joiner served as trauma section chief for the Arkansas Department of Health. She was with the Health Department for 28 years, working in public health preparedness, health system licensing, cancer registry, HIV prevention, HIV services, tobacco prevention, maternal and child health, and chronic diseases.
