UAMS East’s William McClain Named Chief Administrative Officer of Helena Hospital
| William McClain, administrative director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) East Regional Campus in Helena-West Helena, will expand his role to include chief administrative officer at Helena Hospital, beginning Oct. 1.
McClain grew up in Marianna, Arkansas, less than 30 miles from Helena-West Helena. He graduated from Memphis University School in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1994 and earned two bachelor’s degrees in finance and marketing management from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He spent 10 years working in inventory control for Lindsey Management company in Fayetteville before moving back to Marianna in 2009. He was hired as business manager at UAMS Delta AHEC (now UAMS East Regional Campus) and was promoted to administrative director in 2020.
Helena Hospital
UAMS signed a co-management agreement with Helena Hospital in June, which brings direct access to specialists, academic programs, and clinical research. Soon after the agreement, Brian Jones, DHSc, UAMS vice chancellor for Regional Campuses, agreed to temporarily lead the hospital’s day-to-day operations.
“William has established roots in the Delta,” said Jones. “He recognizes how critical Helena Hospital is to both local healthcare needs and the economy. He is committed to this region and has repeatedly expressed how important it is that Phillips County have a sustainable hospital presence. A proven leader, William will help continue to strengthen ties between the hospital and UAMS.”
UAMS is the state’s only health sciences university, with colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Health Professions and Public Health; a graduate school; a hospital; a main campus in Little Rock; a Northwest Arkansas regional campus in Fayetteville; a statewide network of regional campuses; and seven institutes: the Winthrop P.
