Legislators Donate Lunches for Frontline COVID Workers

Fenghuang “Frank” Zhan, M.D., Ph.D., Myeloma Center research director at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), has received two grants totaling almost $3.14 million to study the molecular genetics and drug resistance of multiple myeloma, the second-most common blood-related cancer.

UAMS Awarded $940,000 by FCC to Help with COVID-19 Response Across the State

The FCC recently awarded UAMS funding for new purchases of new, digital health technology as well as to reimburse the university for the cost of digital technology like this iPad it already has bought in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) has received $940,000 from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for digital health technology to treat patients for COVID-19 and deliver medical information to patients and providers across the state.

Day Camp Opens for UAMS Employees’ Children During Pandemic

Natasha Gayden, a paraprofessional with the Little Rock School District who usually works with preschool children, cares for Brianna and Tenley Lewis and other students at the UAMS Day Camp at Pulaski Heights Elementary and Middle Schools while the childrens' parents work at UAMS.

When COVID-19 arrived in Arkansas in March, Gov. Asa Hutchinson directed that public school buildings statewide be closed to help slow the spread of the contagious and potentially deadly disease. As Little Rock School District students and teachers vacated their buildings and moved to remote learning, physicians, nurses and other essential employees at UAMS scrambled to secure childcare.
