Legislature Allows Funding for New Cancer Research Center

LITTLE ROCK – The Arkansas Legislature has put construction of a new University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Cancer Research Center a step closer to reality.

With Gov. Mike Huckabee’s signature today on House Bill 1021, UAMS now has authority to borrow up to $40 million, using bonds to support construction of the research, clinical and teaching facility. Bryan Burke, M.D., of UAMS’ Department of Pediatrics and the ANGELS program, will lead the public forums at the Lee County Health Unit in Marianna at 6 p.m. April 6 and noon April 7.
