UAMS Researchers Receive $2.9 Million to Study Novel Breast Cancer Vaccine
LITTLE ROCK — Two researchers at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ (UAMS) Arkansas Cancer Research Center (ACRC) have received a $2.9 million federal grant to study a new type of vaccine to prevent the recurrence of breast cancer.
Thomas Kieber-Emmons, Ph.D., the Josetta Wilkins Chair of Breast Cancer Research, and Laura Hutchins, M.D., director of the Division of Hematology and Oncology, were awarded the grant to study a carbohydrate-targeting vaccine shown to stimulate the killing of tumor cells.
UAMS Hosts Seminar on Minimally Invasive Joint Surgery

UAMS Scientist Finds Therapy and Incentives Enhance Treatment for Marijuana Addiction
LITTLE ROCK – People addicted to marijuana are more likely to stop smoking and stay abstinent if they are given incentives along with cognitive-behavioral therapy, according to a senior scientist at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Center for Addictions Research (CAR).
Alan Budney, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Psychiatry in the UAMS College of Medicine Sciences and CAR senior scientist, worked with colleagues at the University of Vermont to follow 90 adult men and women diagnosed with marijuana dependence during the 14-week study.

Jewish Leader to Speak at UAMS on Aging Issues
LITTLE ROCK — Author and religious leader Rabbi Richard Address will present a lecture on “Sacred Aging” at 5:30 p.m. May 4 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). The free event will take place in the Jo Ellen Ford Auditorium of the UAMS Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging and is sponsored by the institute’s ReCenter program.
